ENLIGHT Lecture: „Equity & Education”, May 11, 6 pm CET

On May 11th at 6pm, this semesters’ first ENLIGHT lecture will be hosted and livestreamed online. This session explores the importance of equity in education ranging from stages of early education, the transitional period between high school and tertiary education and unequal prospects of success in academia. The lecture "Equity & Education" takes place in framework of European Universities Week.

This lecture includes four presentations from experts on the topic from within the ENLIGHT network. Seun B. Adebayo, researcher at NUI Galway who investigates the development of culturally- inclusive and responsive learning environments gives an application-oriented presentation addressing the issue: “Is equity, equality and inclusion in education the same? Helping all learners achieve their full potential.” Secondly, Ninon Junca & Maryna Radchuk from the RESET project at the University of Bordeaux will address the topic: "Inequalities in academic careers from Master to tenure: getting aware to prevent better". Beyond the quantitative data of their project, their presentation seeks to present reasons for this discrepancy and to provide recommendations. Then Ana Luisa López Vélez who is a lecturer and at the Department of Didactic and School Organization at the University of the Basque Country and conducts research on inclusive and intercultural education will give a presentation on “Equity in the classroom”. Finally, Maria Refors Legge from Uppsala University talks about the Swedish experience of trying to regulate and uphold schools' responsibility to safeguard children's human rights while they are in the care of their school.

All members from the ENLIGHT community, external partners and wider public are welcome to join the lecture. You can register and participate in a Zoom Session or tune in on the ENLIGHT Youtube Channel (https://youtu.be/gpNy3hc4R8o) where the lecture will be broadcasted live. Registration for the Zoom Session is possible on the website of the University of Göttingen (https://uni-goettingen.de/en/654488.html)

Networking event after the lecture for researchers from ENLIGHT universities

Each lecture is followed by a networking event for the scientific community. In the brand-new virtual space, the researchers from ENLIGHT universities can not only continue the discussion on the lecture`s topic but also use the opportunity to identify common research interests. This event serves as a platform for developing new ideas for future cooperation within the network. The ENLIGHT team supports this process by providing insights on funding opportunities. Researchers from all stages are more than welcome to join in! Please register here.
