Lifelong learning
An important part of ENLIGHT's mission is the promotion of lifelong learning (LLL), empowering individuals to continuously develop their knowledge and skills in response to evolving societal challenges. In ENLIGHT, a lifelong learner is an individual who actively engages in acquiring knowledge and skills throughout their entire life, starting at birth and continuing across their lifespan. This self-driven process encompasses both formal education and informal opportunities, emphasizing personal growth, adaptability, and the continuous pursuit of new competencies beyond traditional schooling.
Since ENLIGHT aims to establish an open integrated space for all learners, embedding LLL in different ENLIGHT ecosystems and educational activities is supported by all members of the alliance. Micro-Credentials for lifelong learners in ENLIGHT
ENLIGHT universities are committed to developing high-quality, flexible lifelong learning opportunities that respond to evolving societal and labor-market needs. Through close collaboration across the Alliance, partners co-create innovative educational formats that support learners at all stages of life.
Micro-credentials play a key role in this approach. They offer short, targeted, and quality-assured learning experiences designed for professionals, adult learners, and organizations seeking to develop new competences or adapt to changing environments. These learning opportunities are not simplified courses, but academically rigorous offers built around clearly defined learning outcomes and real-world relevance.
To support both learners and academic communities, ENLIGHT has developed a shared framework for lifelong learning and micro-credentials. This framework promotes joint design and delivery across universities, encourages interdisciplinarity, and connects education with regional innovation ecosystems across Europe.
The documents below provide further insight into the ENLIGHT approach:
- An overview of ENLIGHT micro-credentials and their benefits for learners, employers, and organizations
- A detailed framework outlining the principles, added value, and opportunities for co-creating lifelong learning offers within the Alliance
Together, they highlight how ENLIGHT contributes to building a future-oriented, flexible, and inclusive European learning landscape.
Moreover, new initiatives targeting LLLs, including micro-credentials, are being developed and implemented.
