This year’s Teaching and Learning Award goes to Uppsala University for the course “Innovation Game: A Summer School Applying Serious Game Design in Health Care and Education” Congratulations to the teaching team: Erik Olsson, Femke DeBackere, Lina Sors Emilsson, Svante Axelsson, Jaanus Jaggo, Susanne Bredenberg, Adam Mayes, Raimond-Hendrik Tunnel and Charlie Carpene! The team includes teachers from Uppsala University, Ghent University  and University of Tartu.

This is what the jury had to say about the winning team:

This course convinces though its inclusion of different disciplinary perspectives, high internationality in the student group as well as the group of educators and its use of highly innovative and activating teaching methods. Especially the Design Thinking Approach is applied very successfully. The goal of the course is very much in line with the ENLIGHT challenge of Health and Well-being as well as our emphasis on problem-based learning. Furthermore, the setup of the course is very well thought through and all steps of the programme extensively explained.

The first runner up: Ghent University

It is great that this course is taught by a multidisciplinary group of educators, that offer different perspectives on topics of high societal relevance. This multidisciplinarity is strengthened by the teamwork of students from different disciplines throughout the course. Furthermore, the set up and seminar plan of the course is very well thought through and naturally connect general theoretical introductions with valuable cross-disciplinary exchange

The second runner up: University of Groningen

This project is a very original and innovative teaching project that focuses on this important topic from an exciting perspective. Its approach to the topic is very much in line with the ENLIGHT philosophy and integrates creative pedagogical aspects such as the flipped classroom concept, are the task that is to develop a podcast episode. The course is very well structured and all pre-tasks are carefully chosen and clearly explained.
