Conference "The Impact of Digitisation on Internationalisation" (23-24 March 2021)

The current pandemic poses unprecedented challenges for international cooperation, exchange and mobility but at the same time accelerates the digitalization in various parts of our professional and private lives. Both developments are important to science and higher education and can be used as an opportunity to form new sustainable approaches that use digitalization to improve internationalization at universities.

This is why on 23 to 24 March 2021 the University of Göttingen and the University of Tartu, with suport from the ENLIGHT partners, will jointly host a virtual conference on the topic of "The Impact of Digitisation on Internationalisation: Challenges and Opportunities for the Future of Universities".

Sophia Eriksson-Waterschoot, Director for Youth, Education and Erasmus+ who delivers the keynote speech is only one of many high-profile speakers who contribute to the conference. The list of speakers also includes Björn Thümler, Minister for Science and Culture for the State of Lower Saxony as well as Prof. Joybrato Mukherjee, President of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Both participate in a panel discussion on "Digital Competences in Education and Internationalisation" on the first day of the conference.

On the second day various workshops that focus on topics like the connection of digitalisation and sustainability or artificial intelligence are co-hosted by experts from both universities. In a student session, student representatives from all ENLIGHT partners will discuss the matter of digital education from their point of view as a preparation for the following panel discussion on the challenges and perspectives of the digital campus of ENLIGHT.

The conference is also the kick-off event of the annual month-long festivities of the "German – Estonian Spring" that is organised by the German Embassy and Goethe Institute in Estonia in order to celebrate the cooperation and friendship between the two countries. The ties between the University of Göttingen and the University of Tartu is just as strong, steady and long-term via the sustainable cooperation within the ENLIGHT network.
