Sustainable and Inclusive Event Management

As part of national and international collaborations, many scientific, administrative and student events are organised at higher education institutions. ENLIGHT aims to make its events more sustainable and inclusive in order to meet its societal responsibility and pioneering role. ENLIGHT has therefore developed a checklist, a food policy and a guide to inclusive and accessible activities to make events more sustainable.

Checklist for Sustainable and Inclusive Event Management

When organising events, the ENLIGHT community is encouraged to integrate sustainability considerations and ensure accessibility for the widest possible range of participants. Prioritising inclusion and sustainability throughout the planning process helps create an event that is both environmentally responsible and welcoming for all.

The following checklist provides organisers with assistance in considering social and ecological sustainability aspects for organisation, realisation and post-processing of ENLIGHT events.

A. Prior to the Event

B. Day of the Event

C. Following the Event

 Food Policy

On the basis of the Sustainable Food Policy, ENLIGHT commits to a shift from animal to plant-based proteins by prioritising a plant-based and/or vegetarian food selection for receptions, events, dinners, and work meetings, while still offering the option of meat upon request (similar to how vegetarian and other dietary preferences are currently accommodated). Additionally, prioritising locally produced and seasonal foods over imported options is recommended whenever possible.

Guide to Inclusive and Accessible Activities

ENLIGHT is committed to ensuring that each stage of organised events and conferences is designed with inclusivity and accessibility at their core. ENLIGHT is dedicated to upholding principles of inclusion and accessibility, and expects all participants to share in this responsibility. ENLIGHT has therefore developed a Guide to Inclusive and Accessible Activities which outlines expectations for event organisers and committees to ensure an inclusive, supportive, and accessible experience for all participants.
