Forests are considered one of the most important instruments in the fight against climate change. They have high potential to absorb carbon emissions and play a major role in biodiversity conservation. This session looks at the impact of climate change on forests and their adaptation to environmental changes.
Sylvain Delzon (University of Bordeaux) is a Senior Researcher in Forest Ecology at INRA (French National Institute for Agricultural Research, BIOGECO Unit). He works at the crossroads of plant ecology, physiology, and evolutionary biology. His primary research interest is the understanding of plant ecophysiological responses to environment changes.
Oliver Gailing (University of Göttingen) is head of Forest Genetics and Forest Tree Breeding. His research concentrates on ecological genetics and genomics, biodiversity, and genetic responses of plants to the environment.
Alireza Naqinezhad is a professor of phytodiversity and vegetation ecology at the University of Mazandaran, Iran. He is also associated member of the Forest & Nature Lab at Ghent University. His main interests lies within exploring diversity and vegetation patterns in different mountain ecosystems (forest, grassland, and ecotone), their underlying environmental gradients and future consequence of environmental change impact on these ecosystems.
The lecture is accessible as a live Zoom session and a YouTube live-stream.
REGISTRATION FOR NETWORKING EVENT AFTER THE LECTURE
After the lecture, the scientific community is cordially invited to join us in a virtual space for an informal networking event at 7 pm CET. Since we are not able to welcome you in Göttingen in person, we have been preparing a virtual adventure which leads you (by bus) to the heart of our university and city: the Wilhelmsplatz. Enjoy with us this brand-new virtual space and connect to the researchers from ENLIGHT universities. Registration for the networking event is possible until November 10 by email to
About the ENLIGHT lectures
The ENLIGHT-lecture series takes place each semester and represents one of the five flagship areas which are key determinants of societal well-being and sustainability. For our ENLIGHT-lectures, scientists, and researchers from across the ENLIGHT network come together to discuss different perspectives and approaches to climate change. The topics in this fall's lecture series range from food & sustainability to the impact of climate change on migration.
