Institutions should ensure that the programmes are delivered in a way that encourages students to take an active role in creating the learning process, and that the assessment of students reflects this approach.
Current Practice
The University of the Basque Country has developed its own teaching-learning model. The IKD model (in Basque Ikasketa Kooperatibo eta Dinamikoa) is a cooperative, multilingual and inclusive model that emphasizes that students are the owners of their learning process and are trained in a comprehensive, flexible and adapted to the needs of society.

A step in this direction is the publication of the UPV/EHU's Catalogue of Transversal Competences, which establishes a set of eight soft skills common to all UPV/EHU degrees.

The development of the IKD model is based on the implementation of the i3 Strategy which consists of multiplying learning by research and by sustainability, that is, an exponential growth of each of the terms that enables unprecedented processes and products.

Sustainability is the third component of this exponential formula because the capacity to learn multiplied by the capacity to research is not enough if the great challenges of the planet are not addressed, which, at this time, take the form of the SDGs. The UPV/EHU has found in the SDGs a roadmap to align the work of the university with the great challenges of the planet and people, 'leaving no one behind'. These ideas must be in the minds and in the actions of all the people who participate in the university community, they must vertebrate courses, subjects, programs, practices, laboratories, mobilities and conversations with the social, economic, environmental and cultural environment. The EHUagenda 2030 for sustainable development (2019-2025) includes the UPV/EHU's contribution to 12 of the 17 SDGs of the 2030 Agenda, to which it has added its commitment to linguistic and cultural diversity through SDG 17+.
