New Leadership at Ghent University and the University of Galway

As two ENLIGHT partner universities step into a new academic year, both Ghent University and the University of Galway begin fresh leadership chapters marked by vision, inclusion, and a shared commitment to global collaboration.

ENLIGHT Is Hosting a Virtual Exchange Forum on AI and Translation

From 15 October to 26 November 2025, ENLIGHT is hosting a virtual Exchange forum: AI and Translation: How can I use AI in my writing and translation process in a careful, aware, and reflective way?

The course aims to help students reflect critically on their own use of AI in translation and writing. Rather than viewing AI as either purely beneficial or purely harmful, the course encourages a nuanced approach: how can students use AI productively, while remaining aware of its limitations and ethical implications?

The forum consists of seven synchronous video meetings and seven self-study sessions, during which, students will learn to:

  • Understand the basic strengths and weaknesses of AI translation tools.
  • Reflect on their own experiences of using AI in writing and translation.
  • Critically evaluate the ethical, cultural, and academic challenges of relying on AI.
  • Develop strategies for integrating AI into their language learning and academic work in a careful and responsible way.
  • Collaborate with peers in discussing and comparing perspectives on AI across cultural and institutional contexts

Apply before 10 October by sending a letter of motivation with a short description of yourself and your motivation for joining this project to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

The Virtual Exchange Forum is organised by the University of Gent, the University of Göttingen and the University of Tartu.

All Play Makes Studies Less Dull – But Does It Get the Work Done?

As higher education grapples with increasingly complex subjects, educators turn to playfulness as a super tool for learning. In a couple of weeks, some of these innovators will gather at Uppsala University in Sweden for the ENLIGHT Teaching & Learning Conference 2025 to explore the approach.

There is only one week to go until the historic Main building of Uppsala University turns into the playground of the fifth ENLIGHT Teaching & Learning Conference. Jonathan Schalk, the conference's project manager, has agreed to give a sneak peek into this year's theme – playfulness in higher education.

ROCKET Outreach Conference - Call for presentations

ROCKET Outreach Conference #3

Experiences with Interculturality and Diversity around Critical Virtual Exchange

Join us from May 4th until May 6th 2026 at the University of Göttingen the final outreach conference from the Erasmus+ project ROCKET with the title Experiences with Interculturality and Diversity around Critical Virtual Exchange !

  • How can we account for diversity in higher education and promote equal opportunities?
  • How can we adapt to a teaching context which not only becomes increasingly intercultural, but has also moved from the analog into the digital realm in recent years?
  • And how can we navigate the conflicts that arise, learn about ourselves, and foster the wellbeing of students, lecturers, and administrative staff alike?

These are some of the questions which the Erasmus+ project ROCKET, an innovative project co-funded by the Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnerships program aimed to answer. The project develops a working concept for Critical Virtual Exchange which implements role-playing games for conflict transformation and fosters deeper understanding of issues relating to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

For the project’s third and final Outreach Conference, we invite contributions which address one of the project areas and place a strong focus on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. We are interested in bringing together a diverse set of perspectives, which is why participants can bring a background in research, teaching or administration in the higher education sector. Topics for potential presentations include, but are not limited to:

  • State-of-the-art approaches to promoting Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) in Higher Education, from a research, teaching, or administrative perspective
  • Intercultural exchange and learning experiences in a physical and/or digital setting
  • Implementing inclusive and equitable teaching in Critical Virtual Exchange
  • Role-Playing Games in Relation to Critical Virtual Exchange and/or DEI
  • Perspectives on Diversity and Conflict Transformation

The main language of the conference will be English. There is no participation fee and we offer a 300€ travel subsidiary to all speakers.

Interested or would like to know more about the conference?

ENLIGHT partners extend successful Taiwan Studies Programme for three more years

ENLIGHT is pleased to announce that three of its member universities – Ghent University, the University of Tartu, and the University of Groningen – have renewed their collaboration with the Taiwan Ministry of Education, ensuring the continuation of the Taiwan Studies Programme for another three years (2025–2028).

Originally launched in 2016 with the support of four ENLIGHT universities (Ghent, Groningen, Göttingen, and Tartu), the programme has become a successful platform for academic exchange and dialogue between Europe and Taiwan. The renewed agreement allows ENLIGHT partners to carry forward this tradition, focusing on teaching, research, and mobility opportunities in the fields of politics, history, culture, and international relations.

Taiwan Studies Programme (‘Taiwan Chair’)

Each year, two Taiwan Chairholders are appointed for a four-month professorial fellowship at one of the participating ENLIGHT universities. During their stay, they deliver lectures on EU–East Asia relations with particular attention to Taiwan’s role in global affairs.

For the second semester of the 2025–2026 academic year, ENLIGHT is inviting applications for two new Taiwan Chairholders, who will be hosted at the University of Groningen and the University of Tartu.

Eligible candidates are scholars from universities or higher education institutions in Taiwan, working in social and political sciences, history, law, economics, geopolitics, or contemporary history. The application deadline is Friday 24 October 2025.

PhD Fieldwork Scholarships in Taiwan

The Taiwan Studies Programme also supports early-career researchers through a PhD scholarship scheme. Doctoral students from the participating ENLIGHT universities (Ghent, Groningen, Tartu) can apply for funding to conduct fieldwork in Taiwan as part of their research.
