Nine universities – rectors, staff and student representatives from all over Europe have formally launched the 'ENLIGHT' consortium. ENLIGHT will promote quality of life, sustainability & global engagement through higher education transformation.
The rectors of the universities of Ghent (BE), Göttingen (DE), Tartu (EE), Basque Country (ES), Bordeaux (FR), Galway (IE), Groningen (NL), Uppsala (SE) and Comenius Bratislava (SK) have signed a Letter of Intent, in which the nine partner universities express their commitment to prepare a joint application in the framework of the second European Universities call.
The mission of ENLIGHT is to transform the European Higher Education Area, aiming at the empowerment of students across Europe to become globally engaged citizens who will address the major societal challenges and who will promote quality of life and sustainability in future cities and communities, taking into account challenges and opportunities that come with urbanization and diversity.
ENLIGHT will operate in close interaction with local socio-economic environments around multifaceted challenges, and create ambitious, flexible network-wide curricula rooted in existing cutting-edge research activities and focused on innovation.
To this end, ENLIGHT will not only leverage the geographical, cultural, and linguistic diversity (with 11 official languages) of the network. ENLIGHT also builds on longstanding collaborations in North-East Europe with the U4Society network and in South-West Europe with the Euskampus alliance.
