‘Learning from and with each other’ was the baseline of the successful first ENLIGHT Teaching and Learning Conference in Ghent this past November. The yearly conference brings together academic staff, educational developers and students to exchange on innovative teaching practices and build collective knowledge on the educational goals of ENLIGHT.

A vibrant community of more than 170 participants, including 40 students, gathered for an inspiring keynote by Professor Eric Mazur (Harvard University) and over 40 sessions and workshops in which inspiring good-practices were shared and discussed. Judging from the conversations and the vibe at the venue, this edition sparked motivation and enthusiasm to exchange ideas, co-create joint modules and programmes within the ENLIGHT network.

The Regional Academies within ENLIGHT are responsible for connecting each university with external partners within their own communities. During the first year of the project each university has reached out to ask their communities what some of their major challenges connected to the five flagship themes are. These challenges will serve as a starting point for ideas on educational units, such as Living Labs, research projects or students’ individual graduation project.

Researchers can already filter their search for challenges with an external partner at any of the nine communities. Students may also easily filter out which challenges are open for graduation projects.

Here you may read more about the work in the Regional Academies.

Here you may brows around in the submitted challenges.

Each year the Dutch Higher Education Guide for Universities (Keuzegids) publishes an overview of different bachelor programmes in the Netherlands. This year, the UG bachelor Global Responsibility & Leadership received the highest score of all bachelor programmes in the Netherlands with an impressive total of 94/100 points. ENLIGHT’s Global Engagement Module (GEM), is part of this programme.

“I am truly humbled and proud by the acknowledgement of the Keuzegids”, says faculty director dr. Indira van der Zande, also member of the GEM course designing team within ENLIGHT WP3. “We have always aspired to create an academic environment where students and staff can actively engage in the co-creation of knowledge to contribute to solving the global challenges.” Interested in what makes this programme so special?
