The United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and Siemens Gamesa want to promote university talent in the fight against climate change (SDG 13). As part of the international “Universities for SGD 13 Award” competition, students from selected universities are therefore working in an interdisciplinary manner to develop solutions for the energy transition and environmental sustainability. The University of Göttingen is one of the five selected Universities from which students can apply, together with the Tsinghua University in China, University of Pretoria in South Africa, Pontifical University of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil and the Arizona State University in the USA.
Throughout the competition, students will be supported by faculty and mentors from Siemens Gamesa and SDSN. The projects require a multidisciplinary approach that is essential to the transition to a carbon-free economy, taking into account technological, legal, economic and social aspects.
The winning solution will be awarded in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly and will be rewarded with EUR 10,000 in prize money for further development and implementation.
In the first phase, students from the University of Göttingen can submit their ideas to the local coordinator, Prof. Sebastian Vollmer (
