ENLIGHT Alliance Supports First Micro-Credential in Slovakia Focused on Communication in Healthcare
At a press conference held in Bratislava, Comenius University Bratislava introduced a pioneering micro-credential programme developed within the ENLIGHT alliance. The course, titled “Humour as a Communication Tool in Healthcare,” highlights how collaborative, international education can address real societal needs while advancing innovative approaches to lifelong learning.
The programme brings together expertise from ENLIGHT partner universities - Comenius University Bratislava, University of Groningen, Uppsala University, University of Goettingen, and University of Galway, combining academic research with hands-on experience from healthcare clowning practitioners, including Červený Nos Clowndoctors (Slovakia), and hospital clowns of Uppsala, Clownjouren (Sweden). It reflects ENLIGHT’s mission to foster interdisciplinary learning and to connect universities with external partners in meaningful ways.
Designed as an open and inclusive course, the programme is available to participants from all backgrounds and countries. It blends online learning with in-person workshops and awards a recognised micro-credential in the form of a digital EduBadge, aligned with European Commission standards. This ensures that the qualification is transparent, transferable, and verifiable across borders—one of the key priorities of the ENLIGHT alliance.
The initiative was supported by an ENLIGHT Incubator grant, demonstrating how the alliance enables cooperation across institutions to co-create innovative educational formats. By fostering such collaboration, ENLIGHT empowers its partners to respond to emerging societal challenges—in this case, the role of humour in improving communication, trust, and wellbeing in healthcare settings.
The programme will be further showcased at the European Association for International Education Conference 2026, positioning ENLIGHT as a leader in developing forward-looking, socially engaged learning opportunities across Europe.
