ENLIGHT Universities Actively Participating at the PoMiSA Final Conference in Mauritius
From 14 to 16 October, around 70 African and European colleagues are gathering in Mauritius for the final conference of the Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education project PoMiSA – Potential of Microcredentials in Southern Africa.
The PoMiSA project works to strengthen higher education and workforce development in Southern Africa by using micro-credentials to make learning more flexible and relevant. Together, universities, national bodies, and partner organisations are developing a shared approach for the recognition, quality assurance, and regulation of micro-credentials — helping connect education with the skills needed in today’s labour market and supporting innovation and mobility across the region.
The African partners — universities and (non-)governmental agencies from South Africa (project coordinator), Lesotho, Namibia, and Mauritius — have joined forces with three ENLIGHT universities: University of Galway, University of Tartu, and Ghent University.
Through their active involvement in the project and the conference, our partner universities are gaining valuable experience in micro-credentials and lifelong learning, contributing to more inclusive and adaptable education systems in both Europe and Africa.
As the Mauritian Minister of Tertiary Education, Science and Research, Dr. The Hon. Kaviraj Sharma Sukon, PFHEA said:
“Focusing on lifelong learning is not a luxury – it’s a survival strategy. And micro-credentials are the oxygen for that.”
PoMiSA has also released a series of country reports, showing the current state of micro-credentials in Estonia, Belgium, Ireland, Lesotho, Mauritius, Namibia, and South Africa, and outlining both achievements and next steps.
