First ENLIGHT Incubator Week on Internationalisation of the Curricula at the University of Göttingen

Between 13 and 17 May 2024 teaching academics, programme directors, study abroad coordinators, academic support staff as well as ENLIGHT project managers met in Göttingen for a week of networking, discussions, and input on curriculum design and teaching formats in the context of international partnerships.

The Incubator Week offered a programme-specific matchmaking with colleagues from ENLIGHT partners with the aim to facilitate the collaborative development of action plans for the implementation of international learning activities in the curricula. Networking sessions aimed at bringing the colleagues from six different disciplinary areas into dialogue with one another and spark ideas for joint educational activities. During a workshop on curriculum design, participants unpacked the notion of “curriculum” and explored the formal, informal and hidden curriculum and their potential for internationalization processes. A workshop on the internationalization of curricula was dedicated to the different modalities of international teaching and learning – our ENLIGHT Stepping Stones Strategy which offers a model for designing study programmes with an integrated international experience. The programme was complemented by a workshop from Eveke de Louw and Claudia Bulnes (The Hague University of Applied Sciences) on “Empowering Internationalisation through Professional Learning Communities”.

In the course of the week, the invited study programmes successfully developed plans for two embedded Virtual Exchanges, two Blended Intensive Programmes, a Mobility Window with the prospect of a joint degree, and diverse activities in the framework of teacher education, such as physical or online teacher exchanges and the collaborative development of learning materials for teacher education.

The event was very well received. “Enriching, eye-opening, inspiring, social, well–organized…” – one participant summed up their experiences in Göttingen.

We are already looking forward to a next iteration in 2025; if you or your programme are interested to join, please get in touch with your local ENLIGHT coordinators.
