The Netcare Cancer Network brings together all 10 ENLIGHT universities n their commitment to addressing the multifaceted challenges of cancer, including fundamental science, translational research and clinical aspects. The Network will provide international opportunities and first-hand experience, preparing students and young researchers to address future health challenges. Cancer research is a critical public health issue in the EU and worldwide. Considerable research is still needed to understand the mechanisms underlying cancer development and treatment resistance. Additionally, identifying novel therapeutic targets, innovative treatments and diagnostic tools is essential to improving patient care. Collaboration is a crucial element of this research and educational effort, aligning with the objectives of the EU Cancer Mission under Horizon Europe, namely: (1) advancing our understanding of cancer, (2) developing effective prevention and early detection strategies, (3) improving diagnosis and treatment, and (4) enhancing the quality of life for patients and their families. The network will facilitate joint activities, such as workshops and seminars, as well as mobility opportunities for PhD and Master's students and early career researchers. It will also foster access to a broader spectrum of tools, technologies and methodologies across member universities. This interconnected environment will ensure the continuous professional development of researchers and enhance educational offerings. There will be a strong focus on joint educational initiatives, including the creation of training modules and the expansion of internship opportunities for Master's students to ensure they receive a comprehensive education in oncology. The network will also organise international seminars to increase its recognition and impact in the field of cancer research and education worldwide, and to connect with external partners, such as industry and health organisations.
