GOVERNANCE STRUCTURE

ENLIGHT Governance

ENLIGHT is steered by a shared and inclusive governance structure that combines long-term strategic leadership with coordinated alliance-wide action.

The Governing Board, composed of the ten partner university rectors and presidents, is led by ENLIGHT’s President, Prof. Anders Hagfeldt, Rector of Uppsala University. The President represents the alliance at the highest level, strengthening ENLIGHT’s visibility and engagement within the European University ecosystem. The Governing Board receives strategic insight and expertise from the External Advisory Board (EAB), a group of distinguished societal leaders advising on global challenges and the future of European higher education.

The Directors Board, made up of senior internationalisation leaders from each ENLIGHT university, drives implementation in close coordination with the Student Board, ensuring student perspectives actively shape alliance priorities. Its work is supported by the Quality Assurance Taskforce, which safeguards quality and continuous improvement, and the EU Strategic Watch, which provides forward-looking analysis of the European policy and higher education landscape.

ENLIGHT’s objectives are delivered through six Work Packages (WPs), each powered by cross-institutional coordination teams and WP Executive Groups, which reflect partner universities’ engagement, capacity, and strategic buy-in. Operational progress is monitored by the Project Board and the Project Manager, working alongside ENLIGHT’s Secretary General, who ensures continuity across governance and execution.

ENLIGHT will also be formally established as a non-profit association under Belgian law (AISBL) in early 2026, providing a strong legal and organisational foundation to support the alliance’s long-term growth and sustainability.

Together, this model ensures ENLIGHT remains strategic, connected, impactful, and focused on our collective future—driven by shared leadership, informed by expert advisory, and grounded in strong institutional and student engagement across Europe.
