About the course

Content

This module is a practical and theoretically-based intercultural training which lays the general foundations for dealing with interculturality in both work and study environments. By engaging with scientific theories and approaches from different research disciplines, and by carrying out projects and analyzing critical incidents, students develop the intercultural communication skills needed for leadership in a globalized working context. The module offers numerous scenarios in which students actively work through tasks to establish practical approaches and solutions to pluricultural interactions.

Learning outcomes

Ability to:

  • critically reflect and contextualize cultural viewpoints
  • recognize cultural orientations & awareness of differing cultural standards
  • make decisions & problem solve in intercultural group dynamics
  • apply strategic communication styles to find joint solutions to conflicts
  • deal strategically with issues arising in an international or pluricultural working environment
  • apply operational and intercultural knowledge about English-speaking countries in a professional and academic context, particularly in the context of studies, research and work

Weekly online synchronous meetings beginning 28 Oct. 2026

Weeks 1-3: Intercultural theory

Weeks 4-6: Intercultural teambuilding

Weeks 7-9: Leading intercultural teams

Weeks 10-12: Managing intercultural conflict

Weeks 13-14: Review and Assessment

Teaching method(s)

The course uses a task-based, participative approach designed to enhance social learning from within the group. Regular attendance and active participation are integral to developing intercultural communication and leadership skills.

Grading system: pass/fail

Assessment method(s): interactive discussion (approx. 10 minutes) and written reflection (max. 5 pages)
