Content

This module is a practical and theoretically-based intercultural training which lays the general foundations for dealing with interculturality in both work and study environments. By engaging with scientific theories and approaches from different research disciplines, and by carrying out projects and analyzing critical incidents, students develop the intercultural communication skills needed for leadership in a globalized working context. The module offers numerous scenarios in which students actively work through tasks to establish practical approaches and solutions to pluricultural interactions.

Learning outcomes

Ability to:

• critically reflect and contextualize cultural viewpoints
• recognize cultural orientations & awareness of differing cultural standards
• make decisions & problem solve in intercultural group dynamics
• apply strategic communication styles to find joint solutions to conflicts
• deal strategically with issues arising in an international or pluricultural working environment
• apply operational and intercultural knowledge about English-speaking countries in a professional and academic context, particularly in the context of studies, research and work

Weeks 1-3: Intercultural theory

Weeks 4-6: Intercultural teambuilding

Weeks 7-9: Leading intercultural teams

Weeks 10-12: Managing intercultural conflict

Weeks 13-14: Review and Assessment

Teaching method(s)

The course uses a task-based, participative approach designed to enhance social learning from within the group. Regular attendance and active participation are integral to developing intercultural communication and leadership skills.

Grading system: pass/fail

Assessment method(s): interactive discussion (approx. 10 minutes) and written reflection (max. 5 pages)

Course dates

Online: weekly online synchronous meetings

starting 28 October 2026 – 10 February 2027 from 12:15-13:45 CET (no meeting 30 December or 6 January)

Entry requirements: Good command of English and commitment to regular active participation

Students from all ENLIGHT partner universities are eligible to participate. Students who meet the requirements mentioned above apply directly to the host university through Application link. Before applying, students should check with their home faculty or programme whether the course can be included in their curriculum and whether the credits will be recognised. Students from Ghent University must obtain faculty approval by completing this form and having it signed by the Faculty Student Administration. Students from Comenius University Bratislava must obtain faculty approval by following this procedure.

The host university will select the permitted number of students, inform the students as soon as possible following the application deadline (30^th September 2026). Selection of course participants will be based on entry requirements and available course capacities. Selection will refer to a “first come first serve” principle across partner universities, i. e. the first applications from each university will be selected to increase diversity in the course. Unsuccessful students will be placed on a waiting list and may get a place in case of drop outs at a later stage.

Transcript of Records will be available to students by the end of February 2027.
