ENLIGHT BIP AI AND LAW: Technical and Legal Challenges

This course received is presented by the University of the Basque Country.

AI law

The main goal of the program is promoting the joint interdisciplinary discussion between students with a technical profile and students with a legal profile, focusing on the challenges that arise in the intersection of AI and Law.

These challenges are technical (explainability of the models, biases, etc.), and legal (fundamental rights, copyright issues, regulating a quickly evolving technology).

To achieve this goal, the program is divided into four different sections. The first one aims at providing the students with the required background to understand the challenges. Students with a legal background are offered self-learning materials (videos and readings) as well as self-assessment tests in order to gain the required knowledge about AI. Similarly, students with a technical profile gain a basic legal background through self-learning materials.

The second and third part is also based on self-learning materials and covers the main legal and technical challenges that arise in the regulation of AI systems. All these sections are conducted online, prior to the onsite week.

During the onsite week the students work in practical cases in interdisciplinary groups, and at the end of the week they present and discuss their results.
