Global and Environmental Aspects on Neurohealth

This course is presented by the University of Uppsala.

It provides an in-depth exploration of the critical links between environmental factors and neurological health. Aimed at students in natural sciences, healthcare, and related fields, this five-week, full-time course provides 7.5 ECTS credits upon successful completion.

UU 2025TLAwardThe curriculum, delivered in a hybrid format, combines online learning with a mandatory on-site week in Uppsala, Sweden. The course delves into the neurological consequences of environmental hazards such as air pollution, chemical pollutants (e.g., PFAS, PCBs), heavy metals, and noise. A key

component is challenge-based learning, where international student groups investigate environmental risk factors in a chosen location and propose mitigation strategies.

Lectures are led by an international team of medical doctors and researchers from institutions across the ENLIGHT network, including Estonia, Slovakia, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Sweden, and feature guest lecturers from various partner universities. This collaborative environment fosters a comprehensive understanding of the interplay between

health and the environment, with a special focus on neurological diseases, disorders, and child development. Participants will develop skills in critically evaluating scientific literature, understanding epidemiological studies, and considering the ethical dimensions of data collection. Assessment is based on active participation and a final written exam
