I am doing studies on childhood adversity and mental health at the University of Groningen. I am interested in the impact of childhood adversity on mental health outcomes in adulthood, particularly among international students who face unique challenges in adapting to their new environments. Research indicates that approximately one in five first-year college students has experienced a mental disorder within the past 12 months (Auerbach et al., 2018). Given that mental health issues among college students have been linked to diminished academic performance and higher rates of college dropout, it is imperative to identify the factors, such as childhood trauma and childhood unpredictability, contributing to these challenges to better inform future prevention strategies.
