ENLIGHT Kick-off Week (1-5 March 2021)

‍ENLIGHT will host a virtual kick-off week with several public sessions: inspiring keynotes, exciting lectures, a roundtable, virtual thematic networking, a cultural session and student perspectives! 

H2020 ‍ENLIGHT RISE Proposal selected

‍ENLIGHT RISE, R&I dimension of the ENLIGHT alliance, has passed evaluation phase with a successful score of 13/15 and been invited to grant preparation by the European Commission Research Executive Agency in the context of the Horizon 2020 - SwafS Framework Programme. 

ENLIGHT Student Network elects first Student Board

‍‍The student representatives of all nine ENLIGHT universities elected the first Student Board who takes the lead of the ENLIGHT Student Network through their first term in history. From now on until the end of the semester the Student Board will be represented by Cameron Keighron from NUI Galway, Paul Marsan from University of Bordeaux and Sara Helsen from Ghent University.

‍New Rectors appointed

‍The universities of Göttingen, Uppsala and Basque Country recently held management elections. The new leadership is taking office in 2021. Physicist Professor Metin Tolan will become the next President of the University of Göttingen. Economist and educator Professor Eva Ferreira was appointed as new rector of the University of the Basque Country. Solar cell researcher Professor Anders Hagfeldt took office as the new Vice-Chancellor of Uppsala University. The ENLIGHT network welcomes them as new members in the ENLIGHT governing board. ‍Extra national funding for ENLIGHT

‍Several countries are supporting the European University Initiatives with accompanying national funding and support measures. The universities of Göttingen and Bratislava have obtained additional funding for ENLIGHT by their respective governments.

The European Universities Initiative should build on a concerted action from universities, governments and EU institutions to be succesfull. This implies long-term funding, but also commitments regarding the recognition of degrees, streamlining quality assurance and tackling mobility barriers. More information on UGOE - CU

‍First "Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens - ENLIGHT Meeting

‍On 29 January, a first meeting was held with our associate partner, the Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens (BKMC). This meeting was a wonderful opportunity for ENLIGHT partners to gain detailed insight on the content and impact of BKMC's activities at global level, to share common BKMC-ENLIGHT values and to envision collaboration for the coming years with the ambition to inspire younger generations to solve local and global challenges. Thank you Monika Froehler, BKMC CEO and ENLIGHT External Advisory Board Member, and the BKMC, ENLIGHT Associated Partner. 

‍Handbook for developing Virtual Classrooms published

‍Between 2017 and 2020, Uppsala University and the University of Groningen were part of the Erasmus+ project LISTO: Latin American and European Cooperation on Innovation and Entrepreneurship. The consortium worked with practical tools for university-industry relations and entrepreneurial universities and developed an International Virtual Classroom for entrepreneurship education.

‍‍Uppsala University Summer Course: Innovation Games 2021 open to ENLIGHT students!

‍In the summer course Innovation Game, presented by Uppsala University and EIT Health, the students will face real health challenges and meet them with serious game design – game principles aiming beyond entertainment. The application deadline is on 15 March 2021. 

‍Online Course 'Climate Adaptation Governance'

‍‍How we can adapt to these consequences was the main subject of the Climate Adaptation Week on 19th to 25th January 2021 in Groningen. As part of the event, Prof. Patrick Verkooijen of the University of Groningen launched the online course on ‘Climate Adaptation Governance - Making Climate Adaptation Happen’ that is available on an online educational platform free of charge for ENLIGHT students and (policy) professionals. 

Conferences 'The Impact of Digitisation on Internationalisation' (23-24 March 2021)

‍‍On 23-24 March 2021 the University of Göttingen and the University of Tartu will co-host a virtual conference on the topic of ‘The Impact of Digitisation on Internationalisation: Challenges and Opportunities for the Future of Universities’. Many high-profile speakers from science and politics participate in panel discussions and workshops that address the challenges and possibilities digitalisation offers to the internationalization of higher education. The conference is also the kick-off event of this year’s German-Estonian-Spring. 

Conferences on Social Responsibilty in Challenging Times (6-8 October 2021). 

‍The Social Sciences, Economics and Law (SSEL) Cluster Conference on "Social Responsibility in Challenging Times" will be held from 6 to 8 October 2021 at the University of Tartu. This year’s conference focuses on the role social sciences play in everchanging and turbulent times. Some of Europe’s best social scientists from a variety of disciplines participate in panel discussion on governance in the digital era, childhood vulnerability or residential segregation, amongst other topics.
