You can apply for the following funding schemes:
FUNDING SCHEME: BLENDED INTENSIVE PROGRAMMES (BIP)
Description
This funding aims to support the combination of virtual and on-site teaching formats in international groups. Three or more ENLIGHT partners recruit a specified number of students from their institutions. In the first instance, teaching and learning in these international groups takes place virtually. This is followed up by an onsite teaching stint at the coordinating university, which lasts between five and thirty days and which all students attend together.
Funding:
A) Organizational Funds for the University of Göttingen as the Coordinating and Hosting University
- For a blended programme that invites 15 students from the ENLIGHT partners to Göttingen, up to 5.500 € will be available (the host can select any number of Göttingen students to the programme, because the number of learners from the home institution does not need to be fixed).
- For a blended programme that invites 20 students from the ENLIGHT partners to Göttingen, up to 7.500 € will be available (the host can select any number of Göttingen students to the programme, because the number of learners from the home institution does not need to be fixed).
The funding can, for example, be used for:
- Administrative or teaching staff, trainers as well as student assistants or trainers
- Excursions
- Welcome and/or Farewell Dinner (though catering costs should not exceed 15% of the total budget)
- Topping up accommodation costs (these funds for which are detailed below) if they are insufficient
B) Mobility Funds for the students from the partner universities. The University of Göttingen as host and coordinator of a BIP does not need to apply for these mobility funds, but the involved ENLIGHT partners need to contact their Erasmus Coordination Office to secure the required mobility funds. (If you are a faculty member of the University of Göttingen NOT applying to host and coordinate a BIP, but to send students to the BIP of an ENLIGHT partner, then please apply for the mobility funds with the application form below).
- Students travelling to the on-site sessions receive 70 € (for a mobility lasting between 5 and 14 days) or 50 € (for a mobility lasting between 15 and 30 days) for each day of mobility. These funds can be used to for travel, accommodation and subsistence. This sum can be stocked up for students of the EU Inclusion and Diversity Strategy target groups.
- Teaching staff travelling to the on-site sessions receive 60 - 80 € per day for accommodation and subsistence depending on the country of destination
- Funding for teaching staff travelling to the on-site sessions mobility will be between 60 - 80 € per day depending on the country of origin.
- The means for mobility are independent from the overall maximum of participants; there can be mobility funding for more than 20 participants.
Info session: If you will be applying for a Blended Intensive Programme, please register for our info session on January, 20, 12:00 – 13:00 by mail to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

FUNDING SCHEME: VIRTUAL EXCHANGE
Description:
This funding scheme aims to support the development and testing of learning scenarios involving transnational exchange and the online collaboration between students. Course content and learning objectives are coordinated and joint or mutually held sessions designed together with (a) lecturer(s) from at least one, preferably two, ENLIGHT partner universities. Virtual Exchange courses take place via web/video conferences and collaboration platforms; all students can be on-site in the classroom or participate from different locations in a fully online setting. Cooperation within a discipline is possible, as are interdisciplinary courses in which students approach a problem in a challenge-based and / or research-oriented manner, work on a project, or discuss case studies and texts. After testing and potential adjustments, the learning scenario must be implemented within the regular curriculum in the long run. The project cannot be co-financed by other funding sources.
Preferred teaching and learning approaches for Virtual Exchange projects:
- Challenge-based learning approach (preference will be given to projects thematically linked to one of the global challenges targeted by the ENLIGHT Flagship Domains).
- Interactive and intercultural exchange between students supported by teaching staff from participating ENLIGHT partners (e.g. through co-teaching, student projects as well as intercultural learning components and reflection thereof).
- Implementation of several and continuous virtual meetings including all participating students and facilitated by teaching staff over the period of at least six weeks. Asynchronous elements support students on their learning paths.
- Focus on quality and sustainability: Strengthening of partnerships and integration of Virtual Exchange formats into the local curricula. Ideally, project teams reflect and report the learning processes and results of their Virtual Exchange project with the possible perspective of sharing best practise within the ENLIGHT network.
Support from the Göttingen ENLIGHT team:
The Göttingen ENLIGHT team will assist you with administrative tasks and offer guidance referring to methodical and technical questions. The team will also offer a platform for matters of public relations and support the communication process between the ENLIGHT partners. The already established community of practice will also assist you.
Furthermore, ENLIGHT is offering several online work session on Virtual Exchange for teachers, course designers, course coordinators and colleagues at the mobility office. The first session will take place on December 7, 11:00 - 13:00, in which a team of three virtual exchange experts will introduce the following topics:
- Virtual Exchange (VE) as natural companion of internationalisation at home through embedding VE in courses at the home institution in contrast to virtual mobility.
- The impact of VE on intercultural and interdisciplinary collaboration within the network.
- The steps to develop the components and organise a VE programme from planning to implementation.
- The combination of VE with physical mobility, e.g. in Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs).
- Support and training for teachers for using a range of technical tools for synchronously and asynchronously collaborative learning.
Further sessions in the beginning of 2023 will then focus on more specific topics for different target groups. Please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for further information and registration.
Funding can include:
- Funds for research assistants (WHK) and/or student assistants for supporting the work on
- the development of a pilot conception and the sustainable implementation of the Virtual Exchange class,
- administrative, organisational and content-related support of the participants and preparation of further iterations,
- public relations,
- coordination with the Göttingen ENLIGHT team about administrative tasks.
- On-site visit by the project partner at the beginning of the project to coordinate the content and concept of the learning scenario (If you would also like to plan visits to partner universities, additional funding can be made available. Please specify your needs in an amendment to your virtual exchange funding application).
- Honorarium for external speakers who are invited to contribute to the course (also non-ENLIGHT affiliates).
- Materials/equipment (e. g. work material, video production) in a limited amount.
- Translational services for already existing work and / or learning material
Maximum funding per project: 4.000 €. Additional funding can be provided for trips of the Göttingen organising team to the ENLIGHT partner universities. Please stipulate in the proposal whether this will be needed.
Application form can be found here. In case any technical problems in the application form occur, please feel free to send us separate attachments.
Please secure the written agreement of your ENLIGHT partner(s) to engage in this activity with you.
Deadline for piloting and integrating the projects into the respective curricula at the University of Göttingen: 31.10.2023.
