Teaching communication in and for a globalised world. The promotion of Transversal Competences and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in web-based journalistic products

This project seeks to introduce innovative perspectives in the university training of journalists and future communicators, with the aim of offering them training that goes beyond the instrumental to focus on the social aspect of the profession.

To this end, students of the second year of the University of the Basque Country's Degrees in Communication have developed between 2020 and 2021 years cooperative multimedia journalistic projects (in-depth web-based reports; special reports; transmedia projects) on topics linked to the seventeen SDGs. This learning fosters various transversal competences, as well as the emotional training of future cyber-communicators, considering the impact of the ‘affective turn’ in Social Sciences.

For the teachers participating in this project, it is essential to have media professionals who are aware of their professional responsibility and empathetic towards the problems that affect the world, and who are also able to offer innovative perspectives that engage the most diverse audiences on the issues that concern us all as a globalized society.
