Workshop for PhD Students on China and its Neighbours in an Increasingly Turbulent World

More Than a Distant Relative: China and its Neighbours in an Increasingly Turbulent World

We are pleased to announce that the call for applications for our workshop has been extended until July 14th. This extension allows you additional time to carefully prepare and submit your applications. Successful applicants will be notified via email by 21.07.2023.

We are pleased to invite PhD students from ENLIGHT universities to attend our upcoming workshop as discussants!
Our event aims to foster critical discussions and interdisciplinary exchanges on China’s current engagement with its neighbouring states and various aspects of China’s influence on them.
The workshop looks into China’s neighbourhood diplomacy and the transformations it undergoes in light of the increasingly turbulent international situation. Focusing on two adjacent regions, Central Asia and Southeast Asia, participating scholars inquire into China’s responses to the most recent domestic developments in the neighbouring countries. In addition, they examine the actorship of China’s neighbours and their actual capability to shape China’s policies.
Our workshop brings together a group of renowned international scholars who closely follow different channels of China’s interaction with the Central Asian and Southeast Asian states. It will look into both theory and practice to enable a timely assessment of China’s evolving approaches to design policies toward its neighbourhoods. Application Deadline: 14.07.2023
